Cukiernia Dominika Website

2024 | Poland, Białystok

Client

Cukiernia Dominika is a family business that dates back to the 1970s. Currently, the confectionery is run by the third generation of confectioners. In its offer, Dominika Confectionery has a wide range of cakes, cookies, buns, doughnuts and tortes.

Challenge

Between 2020–2023, we were responsible for managing the social media of Cukiernia Dominika and content creation. At the end of 2023, the pastry shop closed for a few months and re-opened in April 2024. Cukiernia Dominika needed a new website, which would serve as a portfolio of their baking abilities.

Portfolio, Not an Online Store

Cukiernia Dominika used to have an online store in the past, where web visitors could add their baked goods to the basket and order for pick up in the physical store. This time, however, the owner expressed his need for a website, a portfolio of his cakes and buns, instead of an online shop. We agreed immediately with his idea—and began crafting the website.

Homepage

The homepage is the entry point for the website. We wanted to keep it fairly short and introduce elements of history and offering. It’s a place where users can learn all the most important information about Cukiernia Dominika and have direct access to product categories. We selected three high-quality images to complement the page and give it a traditional, home-like feeling.

Accessible Information

Apart from the homepage, we designed two other static pages: About Us and Contact. We wanted to keep them simple, informative and short for optimal reading experience and comprehension. The goal of the pages for the users is to learn about Cukiernia Dominika’s history, offering, location and contact details.

Navigation

The owner expressed his need for a straightforward navigation on his website. He wanted all the baked goods to be organised into categories that users can access from one location. That lead us to creating five categories: Ciasta, Ciastka, Drożdżówki, Pączki, and Torty. Out of the five, three of them have more subcategories for even more thorough differentiation. Each category comes with a unique description for better SEO and understanding.

Category Page

We created a unified layout for all category pages on the website. We wanted to keep it simple, informative and dynamic—so that it could be populated with different content without custom editing. The template includes a dynamic category name, description and product grid.

Visual Identity

Cukiernia Dominika did not have a visual identity, as its online presence was limited to some social media channels and, in the past, an online store. Therefore, we decided to follow a simple identity. We chose only three colours: the infamous pink, black and white, and a few fonts.

Gallery of Cakes

Cukiernia Dominika is fairly popular for its cake baking. For the client, it was a priority to include a portfolio of different cakes for the web visitors to explore. The importance was placed on the variety and number of available goods to have a great understanding of Cukiernia Dominika’s baking abilities. We created two portfolio pages for two types of cakes that follow a similar design to category pages—that is to keep the visual consistency.

Single Product

Each pastry or cake has its unique page. This is to keep the website’s feel of a portfolio. Visitors can browse a wide selection of categorised products and learn more about them thanks to high-quality images and product descriptions. We designed a single product template that is being used for all Cukiernia Dominika’s baked goods.

Content

The last part of the project consisted of content creation. We needed to add approximately 100 products to the product database with descriptions, images and assigned categories. This way, we could display the products dynamically in their respective category pages. We keep updating the database with new positions as the shop’s inventory grows and changes.

Conclusion

We continue working for Cukiernia Dominika as a Web Manager. Although the design is complete, we take care of regular maintenance and additional content creation. Our work happens fully remotely with occasional visits to the store’s physical location to take new pictures.
